Janine Moran

Mental Health Social Worker

Janine is an Individual, Couple and Family Psychotherapist, Mental Health Social Worker, Mediator and Clinical Supervisor. She is the Director of YMU.

Janine holds advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, Families, and Individuals and is certified in that modality. She is also an ICEEFT Certified Supervisor and ICEEFT Trainer-in-Training. Additionally, Janine is level 3 trained by John Gottman (USA), trained in Discernment Counselling for couples on the brink of separation or divorce, and has completed training in Somatic Therapy, Schema Therapy, EMDR, and advanced training in AEDP—an experiential attachment- and trauma-informed psychotherapy grounded in the work of Diana Fosha and Dan Siegel. She has also completed training with Stepfamilies Australia in the complex issues surrounding blended families.

Janine has extensive experience in running high impact-workshops for couples. Her professional interests include neurodiversity and executive functioning, particularly how differences in these areas impact couple relationships, attachment patterns in family violence issues, and the intrapsychic underpinnings of infidelity.

Janine is also passionate about increasing the availability of high quality Relationship Therapy across Australia to have a positive impact on individuals and families, particularly by decreasing the rate of post-separated conflict she sees in her mediation work.

She loves collaborating with couples with gentle curiosity, exploring how they are individually triggered by each other. It is rewarding to see insights around their coping strategies grow, helping them  identify patterns that either bring them closer or push them apart. Awareness can bring such positive change.

She also works with individuals and families in a similar way – using an attachment- and trauma-informed approach, and loves to help clients make sense of their reactions, moods and emotions, and restructure the relationships they have with themselves and others.

She very much enjoys supporting and supervising Clinicians in their important work.
