Diversity & Inclusion in Therapy

Everyone deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported in their relationships. At YMU, we honour and welcome all identities with genuine respect and care.

A Safe and Inclusive Space for Everyone at YMU

At YMU, we recognise that discrimination isn’t always obvious to those in positions of privilege — but it is deeply felt by those who experience it.

We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive space for all individuals and couples, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, or cultural background.

We’ve made every effort to ensure our website reflects the diversity of the people we work with. We welcome feedback on how we can continue to improve.

Our approach to relationship therapy is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFCT). This method is not tied to gender roles. Instead, it focuses on emotional dynamics and attachment patterns. This allows us to support and validate couples of all identities and backgrounds in a meaningful way.

In individual therapy, we also create space to gently identify bias and power differences — even those that may have previously gone unseen. Our approach is not only respectful, but invites curiosity and emotional safety.

Beyond our therapeutic methods, inclusivity is a deeply held value at YMU. Our team brings warmth, respect, and integrity to every session. We want every client to feel heard and understood.

For those who may not feel safe being open about their relationships — for whatever reason — we offer Online Therapy. This provides a discreet and accessible alternative to in-person appointments.
