Overview of Fundamentals of EFT

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a well-established, evidence-based approach grounded in attachment science and the science of emotion.

The Fundamentals of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Training introduces practitioners to a well-established, evidence-based approach grounded in attachment science and the science of emotion. It helps practitioners understand distress not simply as individual symptoms, but as patterns that form and repeat within relationships.

In clinical practice, EFT offers a clear way of seeing what is happening beneath the surface — the emotional triggers, protective responses, and interactional cycles that maintain distress, withdrawal, conflict, and disconnection.

This introductory course offers a practical overview of EFT across individuals, couples, and families, and is designed to support practitioners in applying attachment-based thinking directly into their work.

  • The emphasis is on developing practical clinical awareness that can be used immediately in practice.

Who This is For:

What You Will Gain:

By the end of the course, participants will have a clearer understanding of:

  • How EFT frames emotional distress within relational patterns
  • The role of attachment in shaping client experience and behaviour
  • How to identify and work with cycles of disconnection in session
  • How emotional processing supports therapeutic change
  • How EFT can be applied across different clinical contexts
  • You will also gain practical insight into how EFT is used in real clinical work, across individual, couple, and family settings.

Why EFT

EFT provides practitioners with a structured yet deeply relational way of working.

Rather than focusing only on symptom reduction, EFT helps therapists understand what is happening in the emotional space between people — and how change happens when those patterns are gently, safely, and experientially shifted.

For many practitioners, EFT brings greater clarity, confidence, and direction in the therapy room.
